Discover the program ↗Why The School House
Our environment protects the wonder of the early years while giving children the confidence, habits and relationships they need to grow.
We begin with each child’s curiosity, pace and way of seeing the world.
Physical challenge, outdoor play and healthy risk-taking are part of the curriculum.
Children learn to collaborate, communicate and belong in a diverse environment.

A day at TSH
Predictable transitions help young children feel secure. Within that rhythm, there is room to wonder, create, make choices and follow an idea wherever it leads.
Our difference
Children have an innate need to climb, balance, run, take healthy risks and try again. Daily movement builds confidence, resilience, problem-solving and a lifelong relationship with wellbeing.
Team Sports, Swimming, Surfing, Surfskating, Gymnastics, Risky Play
Movement is integrated into the curriculum — not saved for recess.

Life at The School House
A few intentional choices shape the experience: real movement, real food, real feedback and time to be fully present.
Our learning spaces are screen-free, making room for hands-on exploration, conversation and real-world experiments.
Breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack are part of the day, with produce partially sourced from our permaculture garden.
Progress is documented through observation, narrative reports and portfolios rather than standardized tests and general grades.
Garden-grown food, recycling, reduced single-use plastics, eco-conscious materials and open-air spaces make sustainability tangible.

The learning journey at The School House begins at age 1 and currently continues through Middle School, welcoming students aged 11 and above.
Our language approach evolves thoughtfully with each stage of a child’s development. The Nursery House, for children aged 1 to 3, offers full Spanish immersion. In the Preschool House, for ages 3 to 5, children begin a natural bilingual learning journey in Spanish and English. Our Primary Houses, for ages 5 to 10, and Middle School, for ages 11 and above, offer English immersion, complemented by daily Spanish Language Arts instruction. Movement, sports and community-based activities are held in Spanish, giving students meaningful opportunities to use both languages throughout their day.
We intentionally maintain low child-to-educator ratios so that every student can be known, supported and guided as an individual. In Early Childhood, we provide approximately one educator for every five children. In our Primary and Middle School Houses, the ratio is approximately one educator for every eight students.
Movement is an essential part of every child’s day at The School House. Each student participates in a daily coach-led movement class, which may include swimming, surfing, gymnastics, soccer, skating, team sports and other physical activities. Children also enjoy a minimum of 60 minutes of child-led movement every school day through experiences such as risky play, free play, gardening and loose-parts play. These opportunities support confidence, coordination, independence, creativity and a healthy relationship with movement.
Students do not wear a school uniform. We want children to feel comfortable, move freely and express their individuality while wearing clothing that is practical and appropriate for an active school day. Our learning environments are intentionally phone-free and screen-free. Children learn through relationships, conversation, movement, exploration, creativity and meaningful hands-on experiences.
