The Middle School House

Adolescence is a wild, ever-changing remodeling process. Confidence isn’t handed to the child; it’s built skill by skill, with their own two hands.

The learning approach

Identity, independence and voice.

Core academics and movement are woven together with hands-on Skill Labs that grow in complexity, independence and responsibility from 6th through 8th grade.

01

Core academics

English Language Arts, Mathematics & Finance, Lengua Española, and Science & Discovery are aligned with US Common Core standards.

02

Movement

Swimming, surf, surfskate, gymnastics and team sports build physical literacy, teamwork and body awareness alongside academic growth.

03

Skill Labs

Students build practical, transferable skills through Food, Land & Market; Care, Childhood & Community; Maker & Design Studio; and Movement & Wellness.

The Middle School journey

Three years. Growing purpose and responsibility.

Exploration Year — 6th Grade
016th Grade

Exploration Year

Students move through all four Skill Labs — hands in the garden one week, a recipe in the kitchen the next, wood and tools the week after that — with no service commitment yet. It's permission to try everything and be good at nothing yet.

Practice Year — 7th Grade
027th Grade

Practice Year

The rotation continues, but now students take on a weekly service commitment of their own — showing up for younger students, for school systems, for something outside themselves — and start learning that responsibility isn't a single moment, it's a habit.

Concentration & Capstone — 8th Grade
038th Grade

Concentration & Capstone

Two areas explored, one chosen, and a self-led project built in front of the whole community. The capstone project is the beautiful ending to an exciting Middle School Program. It allows students to apply what they have learned to a real problem, question, or practical project — and to demonstrate knowledge, critical thinking, planning, problem-solving, independence, and communication skills.

One school.
Four Houses.

Each House is a new chapter, connected by the same belief: children learn best when they feel known, trusted and free to grow.
